And another semester draws to a close! Before you log off take some time to:

"Export" and save your Canvas Gradebook.

Reflect on what went well this semester. An unpublished Canvas page is a great place to capture your reflection on the content, activities, assessments, and student feedback that you want to continue to use. After you take a break and recharge, the page will be easy to reference when you begin to prepare for next semester.
Reflect on what didn't work for you or your students this semester. Add your thoughts to the same Canvas page or a second page to return to when you are ready to develop your class for next semester.

Canvas Course Shells

You have access to Canvas shells for the Summer and Fall 2024. Navigate to "Courses" in Canvas global navigation, and select "All Courses" and scroll down the page to "Future Enrollments". We recommend that you build in a sandbox that is not linked to our schedule builder, Colleague. If changes are made to your teaching assignment, class delivery format, or the class is cancelled, you may lose access to your 2024 Fall Semester Canvas shell. Please contact eCampus to request a sandbox or if you have any questions regarding course copy features.

eCampus team is hosting three day (Tuesday - Thursday) summer camps on several topics. You're invited to participate in as many camps as you can fit into your schedule and mental bandwidth. All camps will meet synchronously each morning (8:30am) for casting calls and late afternoon to walk the red carpet (4:00pm) to share your creations.

Keeping Your Syllabus Accessible from Semester to Semester

So, you took the time to create an accessible syllabus in canvas and the semester is over – how to keep your syllabus accessible from semester to semester? Simple solution: Copy your syllabus over into a Master shell. Creating a Master Shell for your course content in a Canvas Sandbox that doesn't not have student enrollment is a great way to keep your accessible content. Then each semester copy the syllabus into the brand new course for the semester. Any tweaks could then be made to the new course.

If you don’t have a Master Shell you can use the eCampus request form to request a Sandbox.

Once you have your Sandbox follow these simple steps to copy your Syllabus over:

In your Canvas Sandbox/Master Shell, you have the option to copy course content from one Canvas course into another Canvas course. You must be the teacher in both courses in order to carry content over.

Step 1: Start the process in the empty Canvas Sandbox/Master Shell (the one you want to import into).

Step 2: On your home page, on the right, select Import Existing Content.

Step 3: Next to Content Type, click on the drop-down menu and select Copy a Canvas Course.

Step 4: In the Search for a course text box, enter the name of the course that you want to pull content from and select it from the auto-populated list.

Step 5: after completing steps 1-4 from above, next to Content select the button Select specific content. Then select Import.

Step 6: Under Current Jobs list below, find the course being copied from courses. Select the button Select Content.

Step 7: In the pop-up, you can select the specific content you wish to copy over. Check the box next to Syllabus Body. Click Select Content.

The import process will start. Once it is completed, you can find your content in its corresponding area. For your Syllabus it will be located in the Syllabus section of your Canvas Sandbox/Master Shell.
