Course Syllabus
Course Description / Overview:
Griffins, and kitsunes, and werewolves, oh my! From secretive sphinx to kindhearted kelpies, come discover a world of wild and weird animals and maybe even create a few of your own. In this mythology class students will learn more about the creatures of classic legends from around the world and where those myths originated. Fans of Percy Jackson and Harry Potter will especially enjoy this class, but don’t be fooled we will cover more then Greek and Roman myths. Each day will include trivia questions and activities.
Class Goals/Outcomes:

Students will be introduced to a variety of mythical creatures from a variety of countries
- Students will gain an understanding of the roe mythology plays
Course Outline:
Day 1 | Dealing With Dragons |
Day 2 | Fae and the Fair Folk: fairies, brownies, elves, and more |
Day 3 | Shifters: Werewolves, Selkies, Kitsune and more |
Day 4 | Things That Go Bump In the NIght: Ghosts, ghouls, goblins and long legged beasties |
Day 5 | Mix-and-Match Monsters and Mutants: Chimeras, Hippogriffs, Jackalopes, and other creature combinations |
Day 6 | Demi-Humans: Half man/half what? |
Day 7 | Urban Legends and Modern Myths: A mythical creature in my backyard? Its more likely than you may think. Plus Dungeon and Dragons Monsters |
Day 8 | Seems Fake, but Okay: Real creatures that seem like they should be myths |
Student Expectations / Classroom Policies:
- Appropriate, polite behavior and language is required at all times.

What Should I bring to Class?
- Access to Google Docs or Other Word Processor
- Notebook
- Basic Art Supplies (Crayons, Markers, or Colored Pencils) or Online Art Program
