Course Syllabus
Objectives
The MQT will provide you with knowledge and skills in the following areas of distance education:
- effective practices for teaching online and compliance with regulatory requirements for effective teacher-student and student-student contact;
- effective practices for meeting all legislative and regulatory requirements regarding accessibility,
- practical use of Canvas, and
- equity-minded and culturally responsive teaching practices.
The 24-hour training combines approximately 13 hours of synchronous (Zoom sessions) and 11 hours asynchronous (Canvas course) instruction and activities. Time to successfully meet competencies will vary depending on your familiarity of Canvas, comfort with technology, and experience teaching online.
Modules
Modules are sequenced using Merill's First Principles of Instruction: Activation, Demonstration, Application and Integration. Weekly synchronous sessions will follow the same sequence as the modules:
- Online at Ohlone College
- Practical Use of Canvas
- (Break for LCW and semester start)
- Accessibility of Digital Content
- Captions, Transcripts and Accessibility 1 on 1
- Distance Education Regulations and RSI
- RSI in Action
- Transparency in Teaching and Learning
- Equity-minded Online Teaching Practices
MQT Time Frame
MQT (Canvas) opens by Monday, July 28.
All Modules open as participants work through the material
Synchronous Sessions start Week of August 4, 2025. First session is Wednesday, August 6, 10:30 a.m. - Noon. A second session will be scheduled for those not available at this time.
Synchronous Sessions end Week of October 6.
Complete all portions of MQT 2.0 by Saturday, October 11.
